  • Stakeholders Meeting on Non-Tariff Measures in Morocco

    When: 29 February 2012 09:00 - 14:00

Where: Hotel Golden Tulip, Rabat, Morocco

Non-tariff measures (NTMs) have become a major impediment to international trade. Exporters seeking access to foreign markets face challenges with a wide range of technical regulations, product standards, customs procedures and other requirements. With NTMs on the rise, private and public sector decision makers are increasingly concerned about a lack of transparency of NTMs and their potential impact on trade. In 2010, the International Trade Centre (ITC) launched a three-year programme to survey enterprises in developing countries about their experiences with NTMs as obstacles to trade.

The stakeholders meeting on non-tariff measures, taking place on 29 February 2012 in Rabat, Morocco, will discuss the results of the large-scale company survey on NTMs in Morocco and propose ways to solve the problems identified. The results are based on phone interviews with more than 750 companies and face-to-face interviews with over 250 enterprises based in different regions, covering the main export and import sectors.

The meeting will be opened by Mr. El Aïd Mahsoussi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and New Technologies and Mr. Mondher Mimouni, Chief ad-interim of the Market Analysis and Research section of ITC. It brings together about 60 representatives of the government as well as the private sector in order to trigger further public private dialogue and concrete policy action.

The event will be held in French.
